The innovation of pocket watches in the early 18th century is discussed in our July Newsletter here: Summer Picnic 2015.

Mr. Jean-Antoine Lepine one of the earliest innovators who took us from fusee power system and verge style escapement, to using a longer mainspring whereby the actual power was derived from a small fraction of the spring length.

This change allowed (pocket) watches to be streamlined dramatically thus paving the way for further modern watches.
